Three Wheeled Buggies
Three-wheeled buggies are great for strolling around the neighborhood or running. Their compact design makes them easy to manoeuvre, even in tight spaces.
For a smooth ride, go for a pram fitted with air-filled tyres. Look for models with an swivel wheel that rotates 360 degrees in front. They are, however, susceptible to punctures. Make sure you have a repair set.
Sturdy frame
New figures show that three-wheeled buggies, that symbol of the decade that were more expensive than common sense, are in a steep decline. Four-wheelers have replaced them, which are more versatile and easier to drive and look fashionable.
The bigger the wheels are the better your buggy will cope with uneven surfaces and bumpy pavements. The larger wheels both rear and front allow you to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or over difficult terrain.
MFM reviewer Kath tested the buggy with a newborn and 3 year old and found it was able to withstand cobbles, grass rough roads, dirt tracks, and kerbs. She said "it feels sturdy to push and very solid when traversing difficult terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable so need occasionally pumping) come with suspension built-in that was very comfortable for my children.
The size and shape of the seat is another aspect to consider. The seat should be large enough to allow your child to feel comfortable and allow them to lie down. Some three-wheel buggies will have an option to lie flat completely while others will only allow an adult facing one.
The Roma Atlas is a great alternative for off-road or muddy walks. It can be used as a one-person unit from birth and then adapts to take two children when your family grows. It is suitable for infants and toddlers until age 4 and comes with a bumper bar, raincover, improved 5-point harness, and a large cushioned seat unit. Storage options are also great, with a large basket with zip pockets on the hood and a handy pouch on the rear of the seat unit.
Wheels with larger diameter
Larger wheels mean that your buggy will have more stability on rough terrain - ideal for buggies that are off-road. Additionally, they help you maneuver the pushchair through narrow spaces. Many three wheeled buggies feature rotating front wheels that aid you in maneuvering around tight corners, whereas others are designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to increase the speed and stability with which they can be pushed. This is also helpful if you bump into a tree root or stray kerb as the front wheel can be lifted up slightly to prevent you from hitting it.
A lot of 3 wheeled pushchair s come with air-filled tyres, which allows them to navigate a wide range of terrains. They are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They are also lighter. However, they're prone to punctures, so you'll need to keep a repair kit, spare tube and pump in your bag.
Some of our favourite 3-wheelers include the Mountain Buggy Core and Venicci Carbo Lux. Both of these buggies have larger wheels that, as per MFM reviewer Kath, "perform really well on gravel tracks, grass and market town cobbles" and are able to effortlessly move up and down kerbs. The buggies also come with suspension that Kath says "smooths out bumps very effectively".
Buggies with bigger wheels can be quite wide and can be difficult to fit in tight spaces. This is a problem when you're using it for a jogger or you need to be able to get through doors that are narrow when out and out and about. Fortunately, many models come with small folding options that allow you to remove the front wheels for more compact storage.
Easy to manoeuvre
A three-wheeled buggy is more maneuverable for a child. They are designed to ensure that the front wheels be turned on a dime and are easy to maneuver, making them perfect for terrains that are difficult, such as parks, cobblestones and bumpy roads. dirt tracks.
MFM reviewer Kath tried a 3-wheeler with her toddler and newborn and wrote: "The Terrain was a delight to maneuver on the terrain and the swivel front wheel being particularly helpful. I was also impressed with how well it dealt with kerbs using the hand-operated break. It was extremely stable when going downhill or on uneven terrain."
The only drawback of this amazing maneuverability is that the three wheel buggy's larger wheels sometimes mean it has to be difficult to maneuver in tight spaces - something to consider if you live in a urban region. If this is an issue then a 4-wheel buggy may be a better choice for you.

It provides the lowest center of gravity at the ideal height for your newborn and also providing great weight distribution for a simple kerb pop (it takes much less effort to push a buggy up and over the curb than you think). MFM reviewer Kath said it's excellent on cobbles and grass. It's also a great option for running with its air-filled tyres as well as a the lockable swivel wheel.

Kath who was our MFM reviewer, also appreciated the roominess of the buggy. There's a huge easily accessible basket that's surprisingly roomy for a buggy this small and there's an easy-to-use pouch that zips up at the rear of the seat unit, and even 2 smaller mesh pockets in the hood to keep your phone and keys.
